March 26–The Transportation Security Administration had no shortage of jokes after a traveler in San Antonio tried passing through the airport’s security with a sword in their carry-on bag.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, TSA posted a photo of the sword.
"Listen, we know you’ve been rambling on ever since you lost your girl so fair in the darkest depths or Morodor, but your sword needs to be packed with your checked luggage," the post read.
They threw another Lord of the Rings reference in the post.
"Whether you’re a Ranger of the North, or a United States Marine, we knew you need to travel with your sword," the post went on. "It’s fine, just place it in your checked baggage."
The post garnered more than 10,000 likes in four days.
"Didn’t know I needed this but you’ve turned my night around. Thank you," Instagram user foppachick said.
Some users wanted to see references to other geeky shows, though.
"Hopefully you considered Game of Thrones references, clearly Tolkien was the choice though," who_r_u_i_am_batman commented.
A Monty Python reference was added at the end of the post.
"Oh, on a slightly unrelated note, a farcical aquatic ceremony does not entitle you to carry your sword on the plane. Just in case you were wondering…" the post read.
